Uyan Ey Gozlerim Gafletten Uyan / Wake Up My Eyes, Wake Up From Ignorance

Seherde uyanir cumle kuslar / All birds wake up in the morning
Dil-u dillerince tesbihe baslar / start praying as their tongue
tevhid eder daglar taslar agaclar / mountains rocks and trees praise the God
uyan ey gozlerim gafletten uyan / wake up my eyes, wake up from ignorance
uyan ey uykusu cok gozlerim uyan / wake up my sleepy eyes
semavatin kapularin acarlar / they open the doors of the skyies
muminlere rahmet suyun acarlar / spread the rain of mercy to believers
seherde kalkana hulle bicerler / they dress up the ones (for the heaven) who wake up in the morning
uyan ey gozlerim gafletten uyan / wake up my eyes, wake up from ignorance
uyan ey uykusu cok gozlerim uyan / wake up my sleepy eyes
bu dunya fanidir sakin aldanma / this world is finite, dont deceive yourself
magrur olup taht-u taca dayanma / dont be proud and lean on your crown and throne
yedi iklim benim deyu guvenme / dont trust that you own 7 seasons (as a Sultan)
uyan ey gozlerim gafletten uyan / wake up my eyes, wake up from ignorance
uyan ey uykusu cok gozlerim uyan / wake up my sleepy eyes
ben murat kulun sucunu affet / forgive this Murat your servant
sucumu bagislayip gunahim ref’et / forgive my foults and ignore my sins
Resulun sancagin dibinde hasret / resurrect me under the flag of the Prophet
uyan ey gozlerim gafletten uyan / wake up my eyes, wake up from ignorance
uyan ey uykusu cok gozlerim uyan / wake up my sleepy eyes

This is a very famous and well known hym in Turkey except for its story… Uyan Ey Gözlerim Gafletten Uyan… ✔
The lyrics actually have been written by Sultan Murat III who reigned the Ottoman Empire between 1574-1595. One day, Sultan Murad could not wake up for the morning prayer (which is before the sunrise) and he feels so sorry and writes this peom, which is impressive by itself indeed.
Well, he was the Sultan on 3 continents, he wrote this for such reason, and we sleep through the night with ignorance…
And the composer Santuri Ali Ufki Bey (Santuri means someone who plays Santur) was actually Polish origin and his name was Albert Bobowski and became muslim somehow and lived between 1610-1675.
Their asyncronous great work (with a 100 years gap between) has become one of the master pieces in the religious music of Turkey.
