The lyrics actually have been written by Sultan Murat III who reigned the Ottoman Empire between 1574-1595. One day, Sultan Murad could not wake up for the morning prayer (which is before the sunrise) and he feels so sorry and writes this peom, which is impressive by itself indeed.
Well, he was the Sultan on 3 continents, he wrote this for such reason, and we sleep through the night with ignorance…
And the composer Santuri Ali Ufki Bey (Santuri means someone who plays Santur) was actually Polish origin and his name was Albert Bobowski and became muslim somehow and lived between 1610-1675.
Their asyncronous great work (with a 100 years gap between) has become one of the master pieces in the religious music of Turkey.
